The Madeira Chemistry Centre (CQM) is strengthening its collaboration with Chinese institutions, promoting the exchange of researchers and knowledge in the health field. In this context, Dr. Xiaodan Pan, a specialist in Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at Beijing Tongren Hospital, is at the CQM for a six-month internship. During this time, she will study the application of dendrimers as drug carriers in hearing rehabilitation.
With extensive experience in diagnosing and treating hearing pathologies and performing reconstructive surgeries, Dr. Xiaodan Pan will acquire knowledge and develop research in an area in which the CQM is internationally recognized, the synthesis and characterization of dendrimers for biomedical applications. With this internship, we will explore new applications for the nanomaterials developed at our research centre and strengthen international collaboration. Partnerships between the CQM and Chinese institutions aim to train human resources, and create and innovate in the area of new materials for biomedical applications, using the knowledge and experience in materials chemistry, nanomedicine and advanced analytical techniques produced at the CQM over the last 20 years.
This new collaboration is part of the activities of the joint China-Portugal Nanomedicine Innovation Laboratory and reinforces the CQM's commitment to transdisciplinary research and innovation in the health area. It will also project the scientific research carried out at the University of Madeira and in the Region internationally.
