CQM introduces the CQM TALKS, a new cycle of conferences with the aim of presenting scientific research with high impact to society, sharing of views on knowledge and innovation in a context of public policies, innovative products, professional experiences, ideas from experts and opinion makers who work in a national and international context of Research, Development & Innovation.
The first session will take place next 5th July 2021, with the conference “Using Gene Therapy Approaches to Prevent Pandemics”, where mRNA-based technologies for possible treatment of diseases, from oncological to infectious, will be discussed. The lecture will also address the performance of vaccines in the treatment of patients infected with COVID-19 and the development of a strategy to face the threats of emerging pandemics. In addition, pre-clinical data will also be presented that show the development of a pandemic prevention treatment in less than 60 days from the identification of the threat.
The conference will be given by Doctor Luís Santos, Team Leader and specialist in pharmaceutical and biotechnological development at the American company AstraZeneca, institution where he works since 2016. Doctorate in Materials Chemistry from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Madeira (2009) and former researcher from CQM, holder of an MBA (Master of Business Administration) in Development Management from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania (2020). He has more than 10 years of experience and knowledge in gene therapies, including mRNA, gene editing technologies, antisense oligonucleotides, siRNA and drug delivery platforms.
