In representation of the CQM, Prof. Helena Tomás participated in the 1st meeting of the General Assembly of the PT-OPENSCREEN network, which took place at the University of Minho on the 21st of February 2020.
This network, recently created in Portugal, involves most research centres in the areas of Chemistry and Biology spread throughout the Country. The main objective of the network is to create a national infrastructure of high capacity screening platforms (high-throughput screening) for the identification of new molecules with biological/therapeutic potential, which may come to integrate the Portuguese Roadmap for Research Infrastructures. The network also aims to centralize the Portuguese Collection of Chemical Compounds currently spread across the various research centres, enhance collaboration between researchers and increase national scientific/technological production. In the future, it is also expected that Portugal will be able to join EU-OPENSCREEN, also taking advantage of the existing European infrastructure.
