CQM Researchers about to deliver alcoholic solution.

In the current context of the COVID19 pandemic, the Madeira Chemistry Research Centre (CQM), in close collaboration with IASAUDE/SESARAM and with the support of the Chemistry Department of the University of Madeira (UMa) under the scope of the Project COVID19/UMa/Santander, placed its installed capacity in the production of sanitizer solution.
On the 9th of April 2020, CQM launched a challenge to its members to acquire reagents for the preparation of the first one thousand litres of disinfectant solution. This goal was achieved within 5 hours of internal campaign. On the 14th of April 2020, a team of 9 people optimized the production process, implemented quality and safety control procedures, and installed two manual production lines for the manufacture of the disinfectant. This production campaign achieved 2750 litres of disinfectant solution as of May 14th, having used 2298 litres of alcohol, 116 litres of hydrogen peroxide, 40 litres of glycerine and 343 litres of purified water in its manufacture.
The CQM's prompt response to an urgent need in the Region has allowed SESARAM to reinforce its reserves of alcoholic disinfectant solution and has guaranteed its users and health professionals the necessary safety on the front-line in the fight against COVID19.
