Within the framework of the Portuguese National Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Network (PTNMR) – Contract Program 2010-2012 (REDE/1517/RMN/2005), the Centro de Química da Madeira (CQM), University of Madeira, Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal, is seeking for a Manager of Science and Technology (M/F) holding a PhD in Chemistry (or related fields) with NMR experience, to be responsible for the technical maintenance of a 400MHz NMR equipment, analytical services, teaching and research, in the following conditions:
Scientific Area: Chemistry/Biochemistry (Natural Products and/or Materials).
Admission requirements: The candidates must have a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Biochemistry or Science of Material Sciences or in other similar area. It is requested strong NMR experience and interest in the field of Natural Products and/or Materials.
Working plan: (1) Technical maintenance of the NMR equipment (e.g. cryoliquid refills), optimization, implementation and updating of techniques and procedures; (2) Service management of the NMR equipment; (3) Promotion of the PTNMR network activities; (4) Development and support of research activities in the framework of the Natural Products and Materials Group’s.
Applicable laws and regulations: Portuguese Law n. 40/2004, of 18 of August (Research Grant Holder Statute); FCT Regulations for Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources 2010.

Grant length: The grant is expected to begin in April/May and end at 31st of December 2012.
Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The scholarship amounts to € 1495 by month, according to table values of the scholarships awarded directly by the FCT in Portugal (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores).
Selection method: Selection will be made based on the Curriculum Vitae of the candidates and in the analysis of the rest of the documents.
